Lessons From Poker and Life
I don’t talk about this much, specifically here on this blog, but I spent more than half of my life involved with the game of poker. Mostly by playing, but also on the other side of the felt, as a poker dealer. Throughout those years, I’ve seen and learned a great deal (no pun intended). Our Mission
The food we consume is the centerpiece of our mental and physical well-being, yet in this face paced world we live today, rarely do we give enough thought as to what we’re putting into our bodies and where it comes from.
While advances in technology have helped our society become more connected than ever, we’ve also grown more disconnected than ever to the natural world. We’ve become far too dependent on gadgets to make our lives easier and grocery stores to stock their shelves for us. But where was that food grown? How far did it travel before reaching the store? How was it grown? How was the soil amended? What fertilizers were used? Was it grown using organic practices or were chemicals involved? Who grew that food?
Over the past year, I realized one of the greatest contributions I could make was to create a small scale farm to provide high quality food to the local community.
I’ve been inspired by farmers like Curtis Stone and Jean Martin Fortier who created achievable blueprints for small scale farmers to grow lots of food in the least amount of space.
